On December 15, 2008, the Santa Paula City Council adopted a Sustainability Policy to allow City departments to decrease the impact on the environment and increase the
Citys economic efficiency. In addition, the Policy will also provide the City with the ability to track and implement sustainable activities citywide.
Sustainability means using natural and financial resources in a responsible manner that meets existing needs without compromising the ability of future
generations to meet their own needs.
The City established a comprehensive Sustainability Policy focused on seven sustainability goals:
Water Resource Management
Air Quality
Waste Reduction
Energy Reduction and Alternative Fuels
Transportation
Land Use/ Open Space
Community Design and Development
Each sustainability goal is made up of subcategories that will serve as a general guide in developing sustainability programs and achieving specific sustainability goals.
The City Council further directed staff to complete an inventory per department on current organizational sustainability efforts and develop a 2009 Sustainability Work Plan
for future City Council consideration.
