Due to the resignation of Councilmember Martin Hernandez,
there is currently a vacancy on the Santa Paula City Council.
The City of Santa Paula is asking all interested individuals to
apply for this vacancy on the City Council, which is set to
expire in December 2020. Applicants must be registered voters
and residents of the City of Santa Paula.
The City of Santa Paula operates under the Council/Manager form
of government. Legislative power is held by the publicly-elected
five-member City Council. Council Members are elected at-large
for alternating four year terms, with elections in November of
even-numbered years. Council Members select the Mayor and Mayor
Pro-Tem each year in December from among themselves. The Mayor
presides over City Council meetings, signs official documents,
and performs ceremonial functions. As the Legislative Branch of
Municipal Government, the City Council adopts laws and makes
policy decisions for the City of Santa Paula.
The City Council meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the
month. Council Members are expected to periodically attend and
participate in City programs and activities, and committees with
outside organizations. Council Members receive a monthly stipend
